Painkeeper End Game Clan Boss Build Guide

Painkeeper is a Void affinity Rare Champion from the Dark Elves faction that is core to some of the most popular unkillable CB comps in the game: the Budget Unkillable and Bateater. The first section of this guide will look at Pain Keeper in budget unkillable teams, followed by the second section which will look at Bateater teams. Both teams will use the same masteries, but the gear and stats build will be different and their team compositions will also be different.

Booking Painkeeper’s A2 and A3 are a must to reduce both skill cooldowns. Booking her A1 is not necessary but if you want to maximize your CB damage, the damage increase from the books into her A1 can be relevant.

Masteries

Take the Offense tree in the same fashion across all builds, the standard Offense CB Masteries in Crit Rate, Crit Damage and all the CB damage increasing masteries on the left down to T6 Warmaster.

We will then select the Defense Tree, take the Damage mitigation mastery in Tough Skin, Blastproof, Delayed Death. For the T5 Defense mastery, the decision to take the Retribution Counterattack mastery will depend on your Budget Unkillable team comp. Painkeeper has a TM increasing A1, which can make Mastery Counterattacks and ally attack complicate the run. In general, having both the T5 Retribution and Ally Attack in the team is not advisable as the team will not be able to work for both UNM and NM.

So, if you don’t have an Ally Attack in your team, you can take the T5 Retribution mastery. If you utilise such champions, do not take it.

Budget Unkillable Gear & Stats

Gearing Painkeeper for Budget Unkillable is quite unique. There are 2 things to consider in her build. First is her speed. You generally need her to be around 218-222 Speed. Then, you need to build her to have the 2nd Highest HP in your team. Once you achieve these 2 requirements, you can build her to do damage. You can build with any sets that provide stats but the Toxic set is the best set on her IF your DPS champions do not already fill up the debuff bar to maximum (10 debuffs). PK does not do a lot of raw damage, so the poison from the Toxic set can really help increase her DPS.

Painkeeper is also unique in that her damage is based on all 3 substats, HP, DEF, and ATK, so you can use any combination of % Stat on her artifacts.

Recommended Main Stats

  • Glove: Crit Rate/ Crit Damage %
  • Chest: HP/ATK/ DEF %
  • Boots: Speed
  • Ring: HP/ATK/DEF
  • Amulet: Crit Damage
  • Banner: HP/ATK/DEF

The Painkeeper feautured here is paired in a Budget Unkillable team with Fayne and Vizier who keep the debuff bar full, so she is not geared in Toxic set.

Budget Unkillable Team & Strategy

In a Budget Unkillable team, Painkeeper and Maneater are the core champions and cannot be replaced. Any champions can take the two DPS or the slowboy slots. This is an example of a team that features Geomancer as the Slowboy/Stun target along with Fayne and Vizier as DPS. The speed settings used for this team are:

This team deals the majority of the damage from Fayne applying poisons that Vizier extends and the Reflect/GS Procs from Geomancer. Fayne also brings Decrease Def for additional damage. Vizier is geared in the Retaliation set for a high chance to counterattack and extend debuffs. Fayne can be upgraded with another new Epic Champion who also applies Poison and Decrease Def, Venomage. Venomage also has the added benefit of consuming the poison that Vizier extends. The other 2 DPS slots can be replaces by any other champion who does damage but should at least include a Decrease Def champion as Geomancer already applies Weaken.

The flaw of Budget Unkillable is that is doesn’t work on all affinities. As the CB affinity changes, the CB may not always target your slow stun target. In those cases, you may need to change your stun target depending on affinity. For example, this team does not work on Magic affinity because Geomancer is positive affinity, and the CB will not choose him as the stun target. You will need to swap to Spirit affinity stun target for the team to work. Secondly, the Budget Unkillable does not work on NM with the same speed. You need to increase the Slowboy’s speed to 121 for the comp to work on NM.

Bateater Gear & Stats

Gearing Painkeeper for Bateater is much more straightforward than the Budget composition. All you need to consider is her speed but the speed you pick for her in will depend on your mastery choice. If you want to take the T5 Retribution Mastery for Counterattack on PK, her speed needs to be in a certain ratio to your Seeker.

Once you decide on the speed, you can build her to do damage. 100% Crit rate with as much Crit Damage as possible is recommended. You can build with any sets that provide stats but the Toxic set is the best set on her IF your DPS champions do not already fill up the debuff bar. PK does not do very much raw damage, so the poison from the Toxic set can really help increase her DPS.

Painkeeper is also unique in that her damage is based on all 3 substats, HP, DEF, and ATK, so you can use any combination of % Stat on her artifacts.

Recommended Main Stats

  • Glove: Crit Rate/ Crit Damage %
  • Chest: HP/ATK/ DEF %
  • Boots: Speed
  • Ring: HP/ATK/DEF
  • Amulet: Crit Damage
  • Banner: HP/ATK/DEF

The Painkeeper shown here is used in a Bateater comp with Jintoro as the DPS who doesn’t apply any poisons, so she is geared in Toxic set.

Bateater Team & Strategy

Painkeeper is one of the 4 Core champions in the Bateater Comp. You can use any other champion for the DPS slot. This is an example of a Bateater team with Jintoro as the DPS champion. These are the speeds used for this Bateater team featuring Pain Keeper are:

  • 219 Jintoro
  • 249 Seeker
  • 240 Pain Keeper
  • 268 Maneater
  • 240 Maneater

This is just the standard Bateater team with Jintoro as the DPS champion. The main difference with using Jintoro as the DPS is that he has a passive that increase the TM he gains so the initial setup before going on auto is different from a regular one that can be found on deadwoodjedi website. The setup for all other champions are the same except Seeker. You need to delay Seeker’s A2 one turn, and that’s the only difference. Then the run will be full auto from that point.

This team works on UNM, NM, and Brutal on all affinities.
