Gem Rock Mining is a type of mining training method that takes place specifically in Shilo Village. The village has two gemstone locations, one on the surface level in the north-western corner of the village. The other is below ground, but requires completion of the Hard Karamja Diary to access. The method is generally only worth doing if you have access to the underground area, as it is significantly more exp and gp per hour.
Where can you mine Gem Rocks?
Head to the north-western part of Shilo Village and climb down the ladder to enter the underground mine. The fastest methods of transportation to this area are as follows:
- Karamja Gloves 3+ teleport directly to the mine.
- Take the cart from Brimhaven to Shilo Village.
- Fairy ring C-K-R then run south then east.
- Tai Bwo Wannai teleport scroll and run south then east.
Guide to Gemstone Mining
In order to get the most optimal mining experience rates with this method, 3-tick manipulation is required. Make your way around the different gemstones in a clockwise or anti-clockwise rotation. Having a gem bag can be beneficial to reduce your need to bank. However, there is a bank very close by in the underground mine anyway.
Experience and GP per hour
At level 99 with 3-tick manipulation players can expect around 1m/per hour in gp and 110,000 mining experience per hour. This is appropriately scaled down at lower levels. See the exp chart breakdown in the table below.
Gem Rock Mining chance
Wearing a charged amulet of glory is essential when using this mining training method. It will significantly increase your chance of mining the rock successfully, usually tripling the probability.
